To say that God
has entered into our lives is a word of
great hope. This means that neither
suffering nor evil has the last word. How do
we remember that hope during hard times? How
do we share that hope with others?
The
Best
of Times
Gwen Sayler
Globally, locally, and perhaps
personally, the days in which we now live
seem more complex, more anxious, and
sometimes downright terrifying. How can we,
in what so often seems the worst of times,
live as people of hope?
All Will Be Well:
Julian of Norwich
Judy Chiarelli
Paradoxically, the physical and
emotional pain of suffering can open us up
to intense experiences of God's love and
care.
When We Gather for Healing
Pamela J. S. Challis
The healing we received when Jesus died
for our sins is made manifest in the waters
of baptism and the bread and wine of Holy
Communion.
Absolute Hope
Marguerite M. Rourk
Suffering happens, but grace happens,
too, and it is grace that connects us to God
at the intersection of suffering and hope.
How's Your Posture?
Dawn Hansen
We are
called to stand in a posture ready to
receive God's gifts faithfully and then
share them in useful ways.
Standing with Widows and Orphans
Lita Johnson
Responding with compassion and seeking
justice for the most vulnerable is one way
we dance to the melody of God's future in
our time.

Hope in God in Times of Suffering
Terry and Faith Fretheim
Session 9: Suffering as Vocation
God saved the world by becoming one of
us in Jesus Christ and bearing our
suffering. Death on the cross was the
result. God invites each of us to accept
that cross as we care for others.
